Located in the popular BS5 area of Bristol, Hillside Road was commissioned by Habibo Homes, specialists in HMO properties and high-quality student accommodation.
The existing end-terrace property had previously been converted into flats, but the resulting layout was inefficient, with unbalanced spaces, compromised bedrooms and poor use of the available floor area.
Funlab were appointed to rethink the internal arrangement and unlock the property's potential through a comprehensive refurbishment and reconfiguration. Our proposals focused on creating better-proportioned bedrooms, improved circulation and high-quality shared living spaces, resulting in a more functional and desirable HMO for modern student living.
The project also included a loft conversion to create additional accommodation within the existing roof space. The proposals were developed through the Permitted Development route, allowing additional floor area to be created while working within the constraints of the existing building.
By carefully considering the internal layout, circulation, bedroom proportions and overall use of space, the project demonstrates how an existing Bristol property can be transformed through thoughtful architectural design.
The completed scheme provides Habibo Homes with a more efficient and higher-quality residential property, maximising the development potential of the existing building while creating comfortable and practical accommodation for its occupants.
