A Contemporary Extension for a Rural Somerset Home
Located between Frome and Norton St Philip in Somerset, Knoll House is an ambitious residential extension, renovation and retrofit project designed to make the most of its beautiful rural setting and fantastic south-facing views.
Affectionately known locally as the ‘White House’, the existing property has been extended and adapted several times over the years. The project takes a considered approach to this layered history, bringing together the existing house with a substantial two-storey extension and comprehensive remodelling to create a more cohesive and connected home.

Creating Space for Modern Family Life
The new two-storey extension significantly improves the way the house works for everyday family life. At ground floor level, a generous new kitchen provides the heart of the home, alongside a dedicated games room. A new link also connects the main house directly to the existing garage, improving circulation and creating a more unified arrangement across the site.
The design seeks to strengthen the relationship between the house, garden and surrounding landscape, with carefully considered openings and spaces oriented towards the property's impressive southerly outlook.
New Bedrooms, Family Space and South-Facing Views
At first floor level, the extension introduces new ensuite bedrooms together with a flexible family room. A new south-facing balcony provides an elevated outdoor space from which to enjoy the views across the surrounding Somerset landscape.
The overall scheme combines extension, remodelling and retrofit to transform an existing, much-altered rural property into a more coherent and contemporary family home, while responding sensitively to its established character and setting.
