Vineyard Tasting Tap Room

Project: Wineroom | Winery | Vineyard | Tap Room | Rural Diversification

Location: Private Vineyard, UK

Client: Private - Feasibility Study

In the strange times of 2020 and 2021 Funlab were ask to look at opportunities to diversify a privately run UK vineyard.

Th the time they were exploring opportunities to become a winery and develop additional hospitality areas for wine tasting or entertainment.

Positioned prominently on a hill overlooking the vineyard, the pavilion was designed as a dedicated space to showcase the vineyard's produce and create a strong connection between the visitor and the working landscape.

The south-west facing site informed the design, with a substantial glazed corner bringing views of the vineyard directly into the tasting space. The intention was to make the surrounding landscape an integral part of the wine-tasting experience rather than simply a backdrop.

A deep, oversailing roof provides solar protection to the extensive glazing while giving the pavilion a distinctive contemporary character. The design combines simple, modern forms with vernacular materials, creating a building that responds to its rural setting while providing a memorable destination for visitors.

The project demonstrates Funlab's interest in the relationship between architecture, landscape, hospitality and the production of food and drink. It explores how a relatively simple intervention can create a strong visitor experience while remaining sensitive to its agricultural setting.

With the UK's vineyard and wine industry continuing to develop, thoughtful design can help wineries, vineyards and rural businesses create destinations that combine production, hospitality, tasting and visitor experiences.

Funlab works with clients on architectural design, planning, rural development and building projects across the South West and further afield.
